FIX: Re-installing Windows and Re-enabling Intel Optane Memory

Intel Optane Memory Modules are incorporated into the system to primarily accelerate the old and slow Hard Disk Drives (HDD). In some instance, it arguably speeds up HDDs to function quicker than SDDs. However, behind its apparent benefit lies complicated system configurations, which, when things go wrong, complicate also the process of system repair.
Experiencing it first-hand, the process of Re-installing Windows and Re-enabling Intel Optane Memory was laborious, especially for me who is not adept to engage in such task. Because the road I took to salvage my laptop after it malfunctioned was time-consuming, exhaustive and mentally draining – yeah! I was obliged to read jargons I didn’t even understand, lol, I decided to post the method here to serve as reference for others who might encounter the same endeavor. If you are someone who experienced it already, you should know by now that forums and FAQs pages remain mostly unanswered. And no site has deliberately provided options. It’s due to the fact that Intel optane Memory is still in its infancy since its introduction in 2017.

A. REINSTALLING WINDOWS OS

When we encounter problems on Windows OS, we usually attempt to repair our system with Windows Repair. However, there are particular problems, especially the ones caused by destructive virus and malwares, that cannot be solved by Windows Repair anymore. This is when we cannot boot into Windows, so we opt to reinstall it.

*Prepare Bootable USB Windows Installer

This step is prevalent in any repair methods. There are basically two methods to create a bootable USB Windows Installer.

1. Windows Media Creation Tool

2. Rufus Software

Both tools are free. But as what the tech-savvies prefer, we shall take the step through Rufus software because of its edge over the Windows Media Creation Tool. With Rufus, USB installer can be created OFFLINE once the Windows iso files are downloaded.

Click the Download button to download the specific Windows OS. This button will be available only if you are connected to the internet. Choose the Windows OS version. Check Download by browser.

Select the downloaded iso saved in a directory. Rufus will automatically set the optimum settings for the chosen OS. Click start and the formatting of the inserted USB will begin. Close. You have now a Bootable USB Installer, which is a crucial tool to keep.

*Install Windows OS

Always Back-up your data!
Go into BIOS. Set-up and locate the setting where you can change the order of the bootable devices. Place USB as first, exit and save changes and reboot. The installation process will now commence.

Keeping Files
In Custom Install, select among the disk partitions, usually four, of which will contain the newly installed system. The former windows system will be saved in windows.old folder. It’s the one with the highest space allocation. Proceed and finish installation.

Clean Install
Wipe out all the data contained in the drive by deleting all the partitions. A single unallocated partition will be left after. Click new to automatically add pertinent drive partitions. Proceed and finish installation.
